Karen Dutil RN,CNM,BSN,MSN (Retired)
Presently providing services as a Professional Childbirth Assistant
Devoted, understanding, experienced, trusted.
I grew up in Evanston IL and was graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor's Degree in nursing. My husband,
Gene, and I lived in suburban Detroit where our four children were born. We were transferred back to Illinois during the
early seventies. I received my Master's Degree in Maternal Child Nursing and Midwifery from the University of Illinois in
1975.
My years of nursing experience include obstetrical nursing and nursing management at the director level of OB, Pediatrics
and ER.
Accomplishments include establishing a family centered maternity unit in a new hospital and developing the largest hospital
based childbirth education program in IL.
My areas of expertise are support in labor and in breast-feeding. I have found my clinical assessment skills to be very
helpful in practicing as a professional childbirth assistant and have a repertoire of knowledge and experience to assist families
during the birth experience.
Since retirement from nursing and midwifery I've rehabbed houses, bought and sold real estate, and dabbled in antiques.
My personal interests include grief education and support, writing poetry, quilting, and speaking at university classes on
various subjects.
I've been a full time resident of Door County since 1995 and since I live in southern Door, have convenient access to
hospitals in Green Bay and Sturgeon Bay.
Experience:
Twenty years of nursing practice in obstetrics, gynecology and well woman health care.
Fifteen years experience in bereavement facilitation and counseling.
Intimately familiar with American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations on breastfeeding, Back to Sleep Program, and child
care.
